Fix Sign-in Errors.

AADSTS50126, 53003 or 65001? Paste an error code and read what is behind the Microsoft Entra ID sign-in error and who can fix it.

The code is looked up only in your browser; nothing is sent or stored. Ideally paste only the code: error messages often contain your email address and sign-in identifiers.

HOW TO READ THE ERROR

Code. Reason.
Next Step.

For each of the 40 codes you see what it means, who can typically act and what to do next. Our glossary explains the basics: Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, multifactor authentication and single sign-on; for repeated sign-in errors, credential stuffing and MFA fatigue.

  • User: the signed-in person can usually fix the error themselves, for example by signing in again or changing the password.
  • Administrator: someone with administrator rights in the tenant must configure, approve or check something.
  • Developer: the error lies in the application or its app registration.
  • The Trace ID and Correlation ID in the message help Microsoft support; for the explanation you only need the code.

QUESTIONS

Good to Know.

What is an AADSTS error code?

When a sign-in to Microsoft Entra ID fails, Microsoft’s sign-in service (Security Token Service, STS) returns a code made of AADSTS and a number, such as AADSTS50126 for a wrong user name or password. The code appears in the error message in the browser, in the app or in the sign-in logs.

Is my error code sent to TOMORIS or Microsoft?

No. The explainer only looks up a table that was loaded with the page. Only when you click “Current text at Microsoft” does Microsoft’s error page open with the code in its address.

Why is my code missing?

Microsoft has a great many codes, and many of them only concern developers of specific sign-in flows. We explain a selection of 40 codes that occur frequently during sign-ins in organizations. For any other code, the link leads directly to Microsoft’s error page.

How current are the explanations?

Taken on Oct 25, 2026 from the Microsoft Learn page “Microsoft Entra authentication and authorization error codes”. Microsoft notes there that codes and messages can change at any time and refers to login.microsoftonline.com/error for the current status. The explanations here are our own short summaries, not translations.

I am an administrator. Where can I find more about an error?

In the Microsoft Entra admin center under Monitoring & health, Sign-in logs. Each failed sign-in lists the error code, the reason and, for Conditional Access, which policy applied. For Microsoft support, the Trace ID and Correlation ID from the error message help with diagnosis.
